Vol. 311 No. 1

Written Answers. - Children's Rights.

180.

asked the Minister for Health if it is proposed to take positive action in 1979 to protect children's rights; and, if so, as the Minister responsible for children's affairs, if he will indicate the precise action it is proposed to be taken by his Department and all other Government Departments in 1979, the International Year of the Child.

The United Nations have requested all countries to review their policies and plans for children, including those relating to the rights of children as stated in the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child. This review of the rights of children is being done by all Government Departments as part of Ireland's contribution to the International Year of the Child.

The task force on Child Care Services, which is expected to report this year, is reviewing the law in relation to children. Whatever legislation may be required arising out of the recommendations of the task force will be introduced without delay.
