asked the Minister for Labour the composition and terms of reference of the Manpower Consultative Committee; its work since it was constituted; and if its reports are published.

The members of the Manpower Consultative Committee are as follows:

Mr. L. Connellan, Director General, Confederation of Irish Industry;

Mr. R. Duffy, Vice President, Construction Industry Federation;

Senator F. Kennedy, General President, Irish Transport and General Workers' Union;

Mr. T. Heery, General Secretary, Electrical Trades' Union;

Mr. E.G. Quigley, General Secretary, Irish National Teachers' Organisation;

Mr. D. Nevin, Assistant General Secretary, Irish Congress of Trade Unions;

Dr. M.E.J. O'Kelly, Professor of Industrial Engineering, University College, Galway;

Dr. J. McKeon, Chief Economist, Industrial Development Authority;

I am chairman of the committee and Mr. E.R. O'Neill, Assistant Secretary, Department of Labour, is vice-chairman.

The terms of reference of the committee are to advise on the role of manpower policy in meeting economic and social objectives. The committee was established after consultation with interested bodies at the end of November 1978 and held its first meeting on 13 December 1978. Its second meeting took place on 1 February 1979. In accordance with its function, the committee is examining the contribution which manpower policy can make in achieving the Government's economic and social objectives. To date the committee has concentrated on the problem of occupational shortages.

The committee has not decided on whether or not it will publish reports.
