Vol. 312 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Night Safe Robbery.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the very great concern felt by bank customers, particularly shopkeepers, as the result of a recent night safe robbery which brought to light the fact that moneys lodged in night safes situated on bank premises are not the responsibility of the bank, he will take appropriate action to safeguard the interest of customers in such circumstances.

The night safe agreement between a customer and a bank expressly provides that these facilities are used at the sole risk of the customer. I am advised that a customer can readily obtain insurance to cover this risk and I would urge all concerned to take this very sensible precaution.
