Vol. 312 No. 2

Written Answers. - Navan (Meath) Road.

215.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will use his power to cancel the plan to build an inner relief road through Navan, County Meath, since (1) the road will badly affect the living conditions of the people living just 20 yards away from the proposed new relief road, there being already a main road on their doorsteps; and (2) that the site for the road was recently flooded despite the fact that the adjacent river Boyne was drained and cleaned one year ago.

A compulsory purchase order was made by Meath Council for the acquisition of land for the purpose of constructing an inner relief road at Navan and a public local inquiry for the purpose of hearing objections to the order was opened on 14 February 1979. The inquiry continued on 15 and 16 February and has been adjourned until 23 April 1979. I will consider the outcome of the inquiry in due course.
