(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the cause of the delay in paying the grant of £17,500 to the Tralee and Fenit Pier Harbour Commissioners, which grant was sanctioned in May 1977; and if he will arrange for immediate payment of this grant.

In May 1977 the Tralee and Fenit Pier and Harbour Commissioners were informed that, subject to technical clearance of the project, a grant of £17,500 would be made available to the commissioners towards the cost of dredging which they had carried out at Fenit.
As I stated in reply to a question on 22 June 1978, the Tralee and Fenit Pier and Harbour Commissioners were asked in September 1977 to supply certain additional technical information to my Department to permit examination of the commissioner's proposals. The commissioners did not furnish all the required information until July 1978. I have now received the report of my technical advisers in the matter and I am arranging to have it considered as a matter of urgency.
