Vol. 312 No. 4

Written Answers. - Donegal Unemployment Assistance.

170.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare to state the total amount being paid in unemployment assistance under the small farmers scheme in County Donegal and the amount that is expected that will be paid under the new multiplier calculator as announced on Thursday 22 February 1979.

It is estimated that expenditure of unemployment assistance to smallholders in County Donegal is currently in the region of £52,000 a week. The new notional multipliers would have reduced this expenditure by about £3,000 a week but the 12 per cent rate increases announced in the budget will increase the amount by about £8,000 resulting in a net additional amount of £5,000 in payments to smallholders in County Donegal. As a result of this year's budget the weekly amount paid in unemployment assistance to smallholders in County Donegal will be £57,000 as against £52,000 at present.
