The Central Statistics Office are the official source of statistics relating to industrial disputes. However, the figures published by that office do not differentiate between official and unofficial strikes.
Since 1976 my Department have been keeping approximated figures in relation to mandays lost. These figures show that in the years 1976, 1977 and 1978 the percentage of mandays lost through unofficial strikes was as follows:— 1976, 15 per cent; 1977, 40 per cent; 1978, 23 per cent.
