The establishment of An Forsa Cosanta Aitiúil is 22,646 all ranks and the present strength is 17,315. For some time past a study directed towards re-organisation of the Defence Forces including An Forsa Cosanta Aitiúil has been in progress. The study is at an advanced stage and it is expected that decisions will be reached soon.
