Vol. 313 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Decentralised Departments Location.

3.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will consider having one of the decentralised Government Departments located at Loughrea, County Galway.

4.

asked the Minister for the Public Service where the eight sections of the decentralised Government Departments will be located and the sections of the Departments involved.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to answer Questions Nos. 3 and 4 together. As I said recently in the Dáil, an exanimation is at present being made of the arrangements necessary for the transfer of sections of Government Departments from Dublin under the Government's programme for the decentralisation of Government offices, as announced in the White Paper Programme for National Development 1978-1981.

This examination involves considering, in consultation with Departments, the sections which it would be feasible to decentralise and the places where such sections could appropriately be relocated. Decisions on both these matters will be taken by the Government.

While I cannot anticipate the Government's decisions, I can assure the Deputy that the claim of Loughrea as a centre for the relocation of a Government office will be borne in mind.
