Apart from grants made to the national governing bodies of sport, I have granted a special sum of £60,000 to the Olympic Council of Ireland for the preparation of Irish Olympic athletes during 1979. This is the highest grant ever awarded to this organisation and represents an increase of 50 per cent on the 1978 grant.
I am not in a position to say how much grant-aid will be made available for this purpose in 1980.
