Vol. 314 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Crime.

229.

asked the Minister for Justice if sufficient gardaí are now available in Dublin city to reduce considerably vandalism and crime and to eliminate attacks on motorists stopped in traffic particularly in the city centre.

The strength in Dublin city stations has been increased substantially in the last year. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the increased manpower has enabled improvements to be made in patrolling arrangements, particularly foot patrolling, and that, in addition, special measures have been introduced to deal with attacks on motorists stopped in traffic.

In general every effort is being made to deal with crime and vandalism in the city and I am hopeful that the improved level of policing will have a significant effect on crime in the area. The position will, however, be kept under review by the Garda authorities and the question of further increasing the strength in the city area will be considered according as additional manpower becomes available for assignment.

Question No. 230 withdrawn.
