Vol. 314 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - European Monetary System.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance his priorities with regard to the spending of money available to Ireland in 1979, on entering the European Monetary System.

As I have previously stated, the loans available to Ireland in 1979 following our entry into the European Monetary System are to be applied for the most part to the financing of infrastructure projects. The capitalised interest subsidies will be used in such a way as to assist our adjustment to the system and to help overcome problems arising from our participation in the system.

Is the Minister aware that at a meeting in South County Dublin on Tuesday night, the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry promised EMS money for the construction of the Western Parkway? Would he confirm that this is the case?

That is a separate question.

As it relates to the current year?

In so far as I indicated that the loans will be primarily used for infrastructure, I see no contradiction between what the Deputy says the Minister for Fisheries and Forestries said and what I indicated.

Questions Nos. 33 to 36, inclusive, postponed.
