Vol. 315 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Derelict Site Notice.

2.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a ruling will be given on the section 3 notice served under the Derelict Sites Act by the corporation on 10 November 1978 on the site adjoining 134a, Cork Street, Dublin 8.

An appeal against the notice has been made to me in accordance with the provisions of section 5 of the Act and is at present being examined. There will be no undue delay in deciding the matter.

Is the Minister aware that two boys were brutally attacked in this area? There were headlines in the evening papers a few weeks ago which the Minister may have seen. The people in the area are very concerned that this might happen again and it is imperative that some action be taken. Will the Minister make a decision on this as soon as possible in view of the tragic event that took place there?

The Deputy can be assured that I will. I would point out that the necessary documentation only arrived in my Department on 18 June last and it is being examined.

Question No. 3.

The corporation informed me that they were served on the Minister on 10 November 1978. I am surprised at the Minister mentioning the date of 18 June.

Just to clarify this, an appeal against the notice was lodged on 6 December 1978 by a certain firm and the matter is currently being examined in the Department. Documentation in relation to the case, map copies, notices and so on were received from the corporation on 18 June last. There has been no delay in my Department.

When does the Minister anticipate making a decision on this?

There will be no undue delay. I could not put a day or a week on it, but it will be as quickly as possible.
