Vol. 315 No. 11

Written Answers. - Mayo Sewerage Schemes.

144.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position in relation to the provision of the following sewerage schemes: Bangor Erris, Mulrany, Shrule, Cong, Achill, Castlebar, County Mayo.

The present position with each of these schemes is set out hereunder:

Bangor Erris, Mulranny and Achill Sewerage Schemes

The local authority's proposals for these schemes must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the number of such projects in progress or getting to construction at the present time. I cannot yet say when I will be in a position to convey approval to the local authority to advertise these schemes for tender.

Shrule Sewerage Scheme

My Department asked the local authority on 12 June 1979 to re-examine their proposals for this scheme and to submit a revised report and drawings.

Cong Sewerage Scheme

The local authority's preliminary proposals for this scheme have been approved. The further planning of the scheme is a matter for the local authority having regard to its local priority.

Castlebar Sewerage Scheme

I provided a loan of £1,055 million in August 1978 to finance the construction of this scheme and on 26 June 1979 sanctioned the acceptance of a tender for the sewer-laying contract. Proposals for the acceptance of a tender for the treatment works contract are at present under examination in my Department.
