Vol. 316 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin School Oil Supplies.

519.

asked the Minister for Education the action it is proposed to take in regard to the shortage of oil being experienced by St. Vincent de Paul Infant School, 67 Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9, and if a guarantee will be given that the necessary oil supplies and finance will be available to meet the needs of the children in the coming year.

The board of management of each individual school is responsible for ordering a supply of oil for the requirements of the school. Following my representations, the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy has made an order designating schools as one of the categories of institutions to which priority must be given in the delivery of oil. It is considered that this arrangement will ensure that all schools will have an adequate supply of oil available to them in the coming winter.

The capitation grant for national schools was increased by 25 per cent in 1979 and the level of the grant will be further reviewed as the circumstances may require.
