Vol. 316 No. 3

Written Answers. - Castlebar Optician Appointment.

414.

asked the Minister for Health when it is intended to appoint an optician to service the needs of the county clinic, Castlebar, County Mayo.

It is not necessary to appoint an optician to service the needs at the county clinic in Castlebar.

I have recently authorised health boards to introduce a sight-testing scheme for eligible adults, coupled with new arrangements for dispensing spectacles, under which eligible persons can obtain prescribed spectacles from an optician of their choice. The schemes are about to be implemented in Mayo. The new scheme should result in a much improved service for all eligible persons not alone in Mayo but also in the country as a whole.
