Vol. 316 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Public Concert Hall.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance the current position concerning the conversion of the Great Hall and ancillary accommodation at University College, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin, for use as a public concert hall, the progress that has been made to date and the likely date of completion.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance the expected date of completion of the new concert hall.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 6 and 7 together.

The project, which is well advanced, is expected to be completed by the end of 1980.

May I ask the total estimated expenditure at this stage?

That is a separate question.

Would the Minister have the information in his brief?

I do not have it.

Is this J. F. Kennedy Hall going to be called the "J. F. Kennedy Memorial Hall" when completed? Has any decision been made yet?

It is going to be called the Concert Hall. A name may be found for it later but that is what it is being called at present, the Concert Hall.

I am not quite certain what the answer to this question is—who owns the whole building at present? Is it the State or the university?

I think that is a separate question but if the Minister wishes he may answer it.

The Office of Public Works look after that building in Earlsfort Terrace.

But does the Office of Public Works own the building which is now being turned into a concert hall?

I do not have that information.

The Minister does not know who owns the building he is working on? Surely the Minister is aware whether the State owns the building in regard to which this question is put down?

It is a separate question.

I was asked a question about the concert hall.

This Minister is opening an industrial centre in Sligo for which he has no official concern and is leaving his own office to look after itself.

We have more than official concern. It is my constituency.
