Vol. 316 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - TV and Radio Reception.

14.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will request Radio Éireann to improve Radio 1 reception in County Kerry.

(Dublin South-Central): RTE say that reception of Radio 1 in County Kerry is generally reasonable but that reception on medium wave is subject to interference after dark from a foreign station which is operating in contravention of the current international agreement governing the use of medium wave broadcasting frequencies. Efforts are being made through international channels to have the source of the interference eliminated but it is not possible to say at this stage if these will be successful.

15.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will request Telefís Éireann to improve television reception in west Kerry from Tralee to Brandon.

(Dublin South-Central): RTE accept that television reception in this area needs to be improved and that the number of viewers involved entitles the area to priority. They are at present carrying out studies to find the best solution to the problem but are not yet in a position to say when the improvement will be made.

16.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the proposals, if any, to improve television reception in the Nire Valley area of County Waterford.

(Dublin South-Central): RTE have no plans for the improvement of television reception in the Nire Valley in the near future.
