The only slaughterhouses which are the direct responsibility of my Department are those engaged in the production of meat for export. I have no plans at present to review the position regarding the operation of those slaughterhouses.
Slaughterhouses catering for the domestic market are the responsibility of the local authorities for the areas in which they are located. Any question of a review of the operation of such slaughterhouses in the Dublin area would be a matter for consideration by Dublin Corporation in the first instance.
