Vol. 316 No. 9

Written Answers. - Clifden (Galway) School Sports Hall.

411.

asked the Minister for Education the commitment, if any, given to the erection of a sportshall at Clifden community school, County Galway, when such a commitment was given, and when it will be honoured.

It was stated in July 1975 that as part of a programme to be undertaken for the provision of sportshalls at community schools and at regional colleges, a sportshall would be provided at Clifden Community School. However, the school premises were not built until 1976 and by that time a decision had been taken to discontinue the provision of sportshalls.

In this connection I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question from him on 22 February 1979 when I stated that the substantial increase in capital this year enabled me to authorise the resumption of the programme for the provision of physical education facilities in second-level schools. I am not in a position, however, to say when such a hall may be provided in the case of an individual school such as Clifden Community School.
