Vol. 316 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South West Cork Industrial Development.

9.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the industrial development likely to take place in south west Cork during the coming 12 months.

The Industrial Development Authority is actively promoting industrial development in south west Cork as part of the regional strategy outlined in its Industrial Plan 1978-82.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the Taoiseach in his announcement yesterday of further US investment made reference to a new industry for Kinsale which will eventually employ 61 persons in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. Construction of a new factory for the project will commence shortly.

The IDA is at an advanced stage of negotiation on a project for Castletownbere which, if it proceeds, is expected to provide substantial employment at full production.

I also understand that the Authority is at present negotiating with an overseas company which is considering the location of a project at Skibbereen.

Negotiations are also taking place on 12 small industry projects for a number of locations in south west Cork. These projects have a combined employment potential of 165.

The Authority is continuing its efforts to secure a suitable site in Bantry for industrial development.
