The Industrial Development Authority is actively promoting industrial development in south west Cork as part of the regional strategy outlined in its Industrial Plan 1978-82.
As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the Taoiseach in his announcement yesterday of further US investment made reference to a new industry for Kinsale which will eventually employ 61 persons in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. Construction of a new factory for the project will commence shortly.
The IDA is at an advanced stage of negotiation on a project for Castletownbere which, if it proceeds, is expected to provide substantial employment at full production.
I also understand that the Authority is at present negotiating with an overseas company which is considering the location of a project at Skibbereen.
Negotiations are also taking place on 12 small industry projects for a number of locations in south west Cork. These projects have a combined employment potential of 165.
The Authority is continuing its efforts to secure a suitable site in Bantry for industrial development.
