Vol. 316 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development Assistance Programme.

20.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number, location, year of establishment and function of the offices established in developing countries in connection with Ireland's Official Development Assistance Programme, and their projected increase, if any.

In August 1978 the Government opened a Development Co-operation Office in Maseru, the capital of Lesotho. A second Development Co-operation Office is being opened this week in Tanzania and it is hoped to open a third, by the end of the year, in Zambia. No further offices are planned at present but the position will be kept under review.

The primary purpose of the Development Co-operation Offices is to ensure the most effective organisation and management of the programme of development co-operation between Ireland and its partner countries.
