The National Manpower Service report a significant number of vacancies in the licensed trade at present. In the past the majority of vintners handled their own recruitment and did not have recourse to the service. Recently, however, inquiries are being received from the trade and these inquiries suggest that the number of vacancies runs to some hundreds.
Job seekers have been interviewed by the National Manpower Service and some placements have been made. Some job seekers have informed the service, however, that they consider the work unattractive for a number of reasons.
I understand that the Licensed Vintners' Association are currently researching the whole area of recruitment within the trade.
