Vol. 318 No. 9

Written Answers. - Arterial Drainage Schemes.

304.

andMr. Donnellan asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, for the arterial drainage of the following rivers on a cross-Border basis (a) the Finn-Lackey, (b) the Ulster Blackwater, (c) the Erne and (d) the Fane.

Under a proposal by the EEC to allocate funds for cross-Border drainage, the Office of Public Works, Dublin, and the Department of Agriculture, Belfast, are preparing joint schemes for the Finn-Lackey and Blackwater catchments. The outcome of the proposal will depend on the feasibility of the schemes following economic assessment thereof.

There are no other proposals under consideration for the preparation of joint arterial drainage schemes for cross-Border catchments.

305.

asked the Minister for Finance when the proposed extension to the Boyne drainage scheme in the Kilcarry area of County Meath will be made.

It is hoped that the Commissioners of Public Works will be in a position to commence works on this extension in the second half of this year.
