Vol. 319 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing Boats.

9.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the number of fishing boats on order, (a) abroad and (b) in Irish yards.

The number of fishing boats on order abroad is seven and the number on order in Irish yards is 41.

10.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the number of fishing boats lying idle at Irish ports and the size of each boat.

I presume the Deputy is referring to vessels laid up in Irish ports for repair, outfitting or sale.

In 1978, the last year for which figures are available, a total of 39 boats were laid up, as follows:

Up to 25 Gross Registered Tons

6

26 to 50 Gross Registered Tons

18

Over 50 Gross Registered Tons

15

This overall figure is lower than the average prevailing over the preceding three years.
