Vol. 319 No. 2

Written Answers. - Government Navan Offices.

172.

asked the Minister for Finance the location of the proposed new Government offices in Navan, County Meath, the intended tenants, the approximate staff numbers to be accommodated, the proposed floor area, the original date on which it was intended to commence building, the nature of the problems which arose with the local authority and delayed the project, the additional costs incurred as a result of the delay, when work is now likely to commence and if the contract has yet been allocated.

The new Government offices at Navan will be located at Kells Road. The Departments to be housed and the corresponding staff numbers are:

Approximate Number

Department of Agriculture

70

Department of the Environment

3

Department of Social Welfare

2

Total

75

A total floor area of 1,800 square metres will be provided in the scheme.

It was intended to commence building operations in November 1979.

The problems encountered related to road zoning and to the sewage disposal system proposed for the new building. These were not fully resolved until September 1979. No additional costs were incurred as a result of the time taken to clear these matters.

It is hoped to be able to invite tenders within the next few months and to place a contract before the end of the year.
