Vol. 319 No. 2

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

191.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for applicants in the Hillview Estate, Cabinteely, County Dublin, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Provision of service for applicants in the estate is dependent on underground cabling works. There is a large volume of urgent engineering works in hands and awaiting attention in the Dublin area and while every effort is being made to overtake the backlog of this work, it will not, I regret, be possible to have this cabling carried out until early next year. Service will be provided as soon as the cabling scheme is completed.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for the new housing estate at Grange Wood, Rochestown Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin.

Within the next three months or so.

193.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for an applicant (details supplied) in Dublin and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Because of the volume of urgent engineering work on hands and awaiting attention, the extensive cabling works on which provision of service is dependent are, it is regretted, unlikely to be completed until early next year. Service will be provided immediately the necessary cable becomes available.

194.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs in view of the close proximity of an available telephone line, the reason for the refusal to give priority treatment to an applicant (details supplied) in County Westmeath who applied for a telephone service for his business.

Connections in the Kilbeggan area have to be restricted until additional equipment is installed in the local exchange towards the end of this year. The nearby line referred to is required to provide service to an existing subscriber and could not therefore be used for the applicant in question. According to the information available to the Department the applicant's circumstances do not justify priority treatment on the basis of the standards applied in such cases.
