Vol. 319 No. 6

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

347.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs in view of the recent replies to parliamentary questions, when he indicated that cable or telephone lines would not be available in the Church Road area of East Wall. Dublin, the reason telephones are being installed in the Russell Avenue area and if both areas are off the same exchange.

Two applications in Church Road and one application in Russell Avenue. East Wall, have been attended to in recent months. Two further applications in Church Road are having attention. It was possible to provide service for these applicants because spare cable pairs that could be used to provide service for them were available. Availability of suitable cable pairs for the remaining applicants in these two places, both of which are in the same exchange area, must await the laying of additional underground cabling.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when extra telephone lines will be provided for a company (details supplied) in Dublin, in view of the fact that the company has got only three telephone lines and are losing a lot of business as a result.

The further lines requested will be provided as soon as major underground cabling works, on which provision of these lines is dependent, are carried out next year.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Service will be provided for the applicant referred to when additional underground cabling, on which provision of service is dependent, is installed in the area next year. Because of the volume of other urgent engineering work in hands and awaiting attention in the Dublin area, the work cannot be carried out earlier than this.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his attention has been drawn to the very urgent need of an applicant (details supplied) in West Cork to have a telephone installed and if the installation will be arranged for as soon as possible.

I am aware of the applicant's need for a telephone, but the provision of service for him must await the installation of additional equipment on order which is not expected to be ready for service until late next year.
