Vol. 319 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing Rights.

14.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the work his Department have done in preparing a case for European Court hearing on Spanish fishing rights under the 1964 London Fishing Convention.

I assume the Deputy has in mind the case involving the Spanish fishing vessel "ITXAS-ONDO", which was referred to the European Court by order of the Circuit Court in December last. The preparation of the State case is in the hands of the Attorney General as the prosecutor in the case and my Department are involved in a consultative capacity only.

15.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware that Norwegian fishing vessels have been offered a grant by the Norwegian Government if they can arrange agreements to fish in EEC waters with native participation and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any such grant scheme and I have, therefore, no statement to make in the matter.

Is the Minister aware that certain Irish fishermen have been approached about taking part shares in Norwegian vessels? What does the Minister think of that?

I am not so aware. However, I will have the matter investigated and will let the Deputy know the result.

Questions Nos. 16 and 17 postponed.
