asked the Minister for Transport if he will take steps to reduce the increased cost of the transport of salmon from Cork and other centres to the Billingsgate Market, London.

I have no evidence to support the view that the level of freight rates on cross-Channel routes is excessive. On the contrary, the information which I have indicates that the intensive competition on these routes has kept increases in freight rates generally at a level lower than increases in the consumer price index despite rising fuel prices.
