Vol. 319 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Connection Delay.

48.

asked the Minister for Energy if his attention has been drawn to the situation whereby Roscommon County Council are awaiting connection from the Electricity Supply Board for over 12 months for a new house (details supplied), if he will have this matter attended to immediately; and the reason for the delay to date.

My predecessor as Minister responsible for Energy received representations on this matter on three occasions during the last year and these were brought to the attention of the head office of the ESB on 24 August and 28 November 1979 and 4 January 1980.

The ESB tell me that in reply to the application for connection they informed the person concerned on 5 June 1979 that connection could not be carried out for a period of nine to 12 months, due to pressure of work in the area generally.

I understand that the board issued a firm quotation for supply in January 1980 to Roscommon County Council, who accepted it and issued the necessary order for supply on 19 March 1980. I also understand from the ESB that the connection will be made, probably this week, but certainly before the end of next week.
