Vol. 320 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Town Housing Scheme.

15.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction the erection of the new housing scheme of 31 houses, at Glenview South, Tipperary.

Tipperary Urban District Council have included the proposed 31 house scheme for Glenview Square in their claim for a capital allocation in respect of new works to be commenced this year. Their claim is being considered in conjunction with similar claims received from other housing authorities and I will make my decision on these claims as soon as possible.

Can the Minister indicate to the House when is "as soon as possible" in his estimation? This application has been with his Department for quite a considerable time. People in Tipperary are in urgent need of re-housing. I urge him to give sanction immediately to this much-needed scheme.

The scheme has not been submitted to the Department for approval of unit costs.

The scheme has been with the Department for quite a considerable time.

The Deputy can take it that there will be no undue hold-up.

While the Minister's sympathy is welcome it is poor recompense for the housing applicants to tell them there will be no undue delay when abviously there has been undue delay.

We have not yet got the unit costs.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Sympathy is bad shelter.

Is the money available?

Of course. We always have money.
