Vol. 321 No. 2

Written Answers. - Certificates of Reasonable Value.

212.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reasons for the substantial increase in the certificates of reasonable value issued in respect of houses in a Cork housing estate (details supplied); and if in view of the hardship caused to the persons involved, he will review the position and take remedial action.

The original certificate of reasonable value at a price of £17,750 issued on 29 December 1978—not August 1979—and the price of £19,500 for other houses of the same type was approved by a CRV issued on 18 April 1980. I am satisfied that both these prices were reasonable by reference to the criteria established for the determination of applications and having regard to the dates of construction of the houses.

The April 1980 price showed an increase of 9.9 per cent over that of December 1978 whereas the house building cost index showed that the cost of labour and materials between January and July 1979, the respective average dates of completion, went up by 14 per cent. There is no further action to be taken by me in the matter.
