298.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting telephone service in Meadowview and Meadow-park, Churchtown, County Dublin; the reason their applications are not being met; and when service will be provided.

The number is 16. Service is dependent on the provision of cabling which, because of the volume of cabling works requiring attention in the Dublin area, cannot be undertaken until the end of 1981.

299.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting telephone service in Broadford Hill and Walk, Ballinteer, County Dublin; the reason for the inordinate delay to date; and if he will give precise dates when service will be provided.

The number is 87. It has not been possible to provide service for these applicants because the cabling work necessary for this purpose had not been carried out and, in addition, exchange capacity was not available for some of the applicants. The cabling work has been carried out recently and it is expected that service will be offered to about half the waiting applicants within three months or so. It will be provided for the remainder when installation of necessary additional exchange equipment is completed about the middle of next year.
