Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo School.

25.

asked the Minister for Education if he will allow the national school at Killeen, Westport, County Mayo, to continue as a four-teacher school in view of the circumstances obtaining in this area.

The three assistant teachers in this school are retained on a special average annual enrolment of 80 pupils. In the event of the resignation of one of these assistant teachers a succession appointment could be sanctioned only in accordance with the terms of Rule 88 (3) of the Rules for National Schools. For this purpose the appropriate enrolment figure would be 110.

What is the Minister's general policy in relation to one teacher schools? It could happen that there would be a one teacher school in that area.
