Vol. 322 No. 2

Written Answers. - Examination Supervisors Allowance.

308.

asked the Minister for Education if a substance allowance is payable to supervisors of the leaving and intermediate certificate examinations who live within five miles of the examination centre; if not, if he will introduce such an allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Subsistence allowances are paid to superintendents at the leaving and intermediate certificate examinations on the same basis as applies to the payment of subsistence allowances in the public service generally. Such an allowance is not payable in respect of an absence at a place within five miles of the home of the person concerned.

It is not proposed to alter the regulations to allow for payment of a subsistence allowance to a superintendent at an examination centre within five miles of his hope. I may add that, except in urban areas, superintendents are not usually assigned examination centres within five miles of their homes.
