Vol. 322 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 11, 12, 13 (resumed), 14 (resumed), 15, 16, 3 and 17. Business will be interrupted at 1.30 p.m. to take item No. 17 and the order will be resumed thereafter.

I want to thank the Chair for his courtesy in looking further into the question of the sub judice ruling on the Rent Restrictions Act and for the prompt reply to me. I have to say that I am not satisfied with the position where the Dáil cannot consider a matter of this kind in view of the threats currently being made to tenants. I will have the matter taken up with the Committee on Procedure and Privileges for urgent review in order to enable the Dáil to do its work, as it must do in the interests of the people.

The Chair would be anxious that the Deputy would do that. The Chair appreciates that the practice of the House during the years has been that if a matter is before the courts it cannot be raised in this House. I should like the Deputy to take up the matter elsewhere. I thank the Deputy for his statement.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the matter of below cost imports of eggs to the Irish market and to find out the measures the Department are taking to protect the livelihood of Irish producers.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
