asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the urgent need to increase the number of graduates in computer programming, electronics and chemical technology, he will ensure that regional technical colleges and colleges of technology will be allowed a substantial increase in teacher allocations for the academic year 1980-81 to meet both the needs of industry in this regard and the demand for such courses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Proposals for an increase in the number of graduates from the regional technical colleges and the colleges of technology will receive special consideration in the context of the allocation of posts for teachers in these colleges in the academic year 1980-1981. It is anticipated that such allocations will be finalised in the near future on the basis of the information supplied by the vocational education committee.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of regional technical colleges, the number of: (a) permanent full-time and (b) temporary full-time lecturers and teachers of (i) computer programming, (ii) electronics and allied subjects and (iii) chemical technology and allied subjects in the academic year 1979-80; the intended teacher allocation in these disciplines for 1980-1981; and if he will make a statement in the matter.
The relevant information in relation to the academic year 1979-80 is given in the form of a tabular statement, which with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle will be circulated with the Official Report.
The final allocations for 1980-81 have not yet been determined.
