Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - Nurses' Pay Award.

130.

asked the Minister for Health whether any clause has been inserted in the recent pay award to nurses and administrative staff, for retired nurses, similar to the retired teachers' award of 3 per cent increase annually, and half the percentage of awards given to serving teachers; if he is aware that their annuities have remained static despite the enormous inflation rates and ever-increasing price rises and the action he proposes to take to help these most deserving citizens.

No clause relating to retired nurses was included in the terms of the recent arbitration award to general trained nurses.

Under the provisions of the superannuation codes which apply to nurses employed by health boards and voluntary hospitals, the pensions of retired nurses are increased annually by the same percentage increases as are granted to serving nursing staff.
