There are at present no proposals for the creation of a wildfowl sanctuary on Lough Mask, County Mayo.
There are conflicting local interests concerning a wildfowl sanctuary on this lake. Prolonged efforts by my Department to reconcile the diverging points of view have failed so far. All parties are aware that in the event of local agreement I would be prepared to declare a sanctuary on a substantial portion of the lake.
