Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - Career Guidance Teachers.

84.

asked the Minister for Education the proposals he has to improve the number of career guidance teachers in second level schools.

Post-primary schools with an enrolment of 250 pupils or more are allowed one extra post over and above normal quota for a careers' guidance teacher. Where such schools do not have a qualified guidance teacher they may appoint an additional teacher to the staff for the purposes of enabling an existing staff member to be released to attend a guidance training course. I have also arranged that a post for a qualified guidance teacher, additional to the normal allocation of teachers, may be allowed in respect of two or more schools which are convenient to one another, which individually have less than 250 pupils but which together have an enrolment of not less than 250 pupils.
