Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - County Cork School.

87.

andMr. B. Desmond asked the Minister for Education the current position concerning the reopening of Glasheen secondary school, County Cork, in September 1980; if he is aware of some concern among teachers and pupils concerning the future development of this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information available to my Department is that the school will re-open in the normal way next September. The question of the future of the school is primarily a matter for the manager of the school. Accommodation is available for all second-level pupils in the area, and no representations have been made to my Department in this respect.

A drop in enrolments this year will result in three teachers being in excess of the recognised quota of teachers for incremental salary purposes in the 1980-81 school-year. The rules for the payment of incremental salary allow, however, for the payment of incremental salary to those teachers in excess of the quota in the school-year 1980-81.

The Association of Secondary Teachers have had discussions with my Department in regard to teachers to whom incremental salary would not be payable in accordance with the relevant rules in 1981-82. I am not in a position to make a statement in relation to this aspect of the matter at present.
