Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - Pupil-Teacher Ratio.

93.

asked the Minister for Education why he has not agreed to a reduction in the pupil-teacher ratio in three and four teacher national schools.

Improvements in the pupil-teacher ratio are being made in pursuance of my policy of eliminating unduly large classes in national schools. An examination of school returns is carried out each year to establish the category of school in which large classes continue to exist.

In relation to the 1980-81 school year I have decided that my objective could best be met by the allocation of the additional teachers made available this year among schools of five teachers and upwards.
