Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - National Gallery Facilities.

98.

asked the Minister for Education the approximate number of paintings stored at present at the National Gallery of Ireland which cannot be exhibited by the gallery because of lack of facilities; and his plans to remedy the situation.

The Board of Governors and Guardians of the National Gallery are responsible for the management of the gallery and the arrangements for the display of paintings. I have no statutory responsibility in relation to the decisions of the governors and guardians in the matter and information is not made available to me in regard to the number of paintings not placed on exhibition at any particular time. I am, however, given to understand that display facilities at the gallery conform to generally accepted standards.
