Vol. 323 No. 3

Written Answers . - County Donegal Schools .

379.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in the erection of the Moyle school, Newtowncunningham, County Donegal; and when work will commence.

: The Commissioners of Public Works have been authorised to allow this project to proceed to contract and are making the necessary arrangements. It is envisaged that building work should commence soon.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in the extension to the new Protestant school in Convoy, County Donegal.

: As stated in my reply of 23 May 1980 to the Deputy's previous question concerning the extension of Convoy national school, it was decided that only one classroom and a general purposes room were required. I have since been advised by the Commissioners of Public Works that it has not proved practicable to make the necessary technical adjustments within a reasonable period and it has been decided, therefore, to allow the extension as originally planned, that is, two classrooms and a general purposes room, to proceed to contract, despite the fact that the accommodation will be in excess of requirements owing to the withdrawal of Glenmaquin School from the proposed scheme of amalgamation.

The tender for the extension is somewhat in excess of the cost limit and the possibility of bringing it within the cost limit is being examined as a matter of urgency so as to allow the project to proceed to contract in the immediate future.
