The number of agricultural officers shown is that employed at the peak period whcih extends for approximately 12 weeks. As the inspections progress temporary staff are gradually released and the permanent officers are assigned to other seasonal work. During the course of inspections officers may be transferred from smaller counties to assist with inspections in the larger counties. It is estimated that expenditure on the 1980 scheme will amount to £28 million, of which £14 million will fall to be reimbursed from the EEC.
Estimate expenditure in 1980 is £24.6 million which includes carry over from the 1979 scheme as well as an element for the 1979 scheme; re-imbursement will be £7.9 million and relates only to expenditure for 1979 and previous years.
