asked the Minister for Health if he will state, in respect of each non-contributory means-tested allowance administered under the aegis of his Department, the estimated number of recipients at the maximum rate.

The information requested is as follows:

Disabled Persons Maintenance Allowance: A total of 17,271 persons was on the maximum rate at 31 December 1979.

Infectious Diseases Maintenance Allowance: The number of recipients on the maximum rate at 31 December 1979 was 284.

Blind Welfare Allowance: A breakdown of recipients at different rates is not available.

asked the Minister for Health the estimated number of recipients, adult dependants and child dependants in each weekly benefit and allowance category receiving payments under the auspices of his Department.

The information requested is as follows:—

1. Disabled Persons Maintenance Allowance: There were approximately 23,000 recipients at 31 December 1979. This scheme does not provide for allowances for dependants.

2. Infectious Diseases Maintenance Allowance: The number of persons, excluding dependants, in receipt of allowances under this scheme at 31 December 1979, was 284. In addition, allowances were being paid in respect of 101 adult and 178 child dependants.

3. Blind Welfare Allowance: The total number of persons in receipt of this allowance at 31 December 1979 was 1,560. Figures are not available of the number of dependants of these recipients for whom allowances were paid.
