Written Answers. - Wicklow County Council Schemes

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of all schemes in his Department from Wicklow County Council, in particular schemes in respect of (i) water and sewerage (ii) roads and (iii) house building.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out below.

Water and Sewerage

Contract documents for Tinahely/ Carnew water supply scheme are under consideration. Contract documents for Carnew sewerage scheme and preliminary proposals for Blessington sewerage scheme are under examination.

Roads

Road authorities are required to submit to the Department, for approval, detailed proposals for expenditure of the following categories of road grant: (a) National primary road improvement; (b) National primary road maintenance; (c) National secondary road improvement; (d) National secondary road maintenance; (e) Special grants for improvement works on roads other than national roads.

There are no road schemes from Wicklow County Council awaiting approval at present.

House Building

Under devolved procedures it is a matter for each local authority to plan and initiate any housing scheme of 60 houses or less having regard to the housing needs in their functional area and to the capital resources available. There are no non-devolved housing schemes for the Wicklow County Council area awaiting sanction in my Department.

Fire Services

Proposals to build fire stations at Blessington, Tinahely and Bray have been submitted to the Department by Wicklow County Council. The proposals were submitted on 14 January 1976.

Blessington fire station is now at planning stage. Council sent in some plans in 1976 and were asked to reconsider the design. Further details and financing proposals have not been received to date.

Tinahely fire station was recently approved in principle. Council's financing proposals are awaited.

Discussions have been held between technical officers of the Department and members of the council staff on the design of Bray fire station. Revised plans were recently submitted to the Department and are being examined at present by the technical staff. Council's financing proposals have not been received to date.

There are no other schemes awaiting approval in my Department.
