Vol. 324 No. 2

Written Answers. - Office Accommodation Rental.

278.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will state in respect of each semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of his Department:— (1) if they rent office accommodation and, if so, the rent per square foot per annum, (2) the length of time to the next date of rent review, and (3) the total rent per annum paid by each body and the total square footage rented.

The renting of office accommodation by the State bodies under the aegis of my Department — with the exception of the Irish National Petroleum Corporation — is primarily a matter for the day-to-day administration of the bodies concerned and an area in which I have no function. The Irish National Petroleum Corporation are, under their Articles of Association, required to obtain my consent for the leasing of property. They do rent office accommodation. However, it is not the practice to disclose individual rents which are confidential as between the lessor and lessee. I can say that there is no provision for rent review because of short-term letting.

279.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will state in respect of each semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of his Department:— (1) if they rent office accommodation and, if so, the rent per square foot per annum, (2) the length of time to the next date of rent review, and (3) the total rent per annum paid by each body and the total square footage rented.

The Agency for Personal Service Overseas (APSO) rent office accommodation at £4.31 per square foot per annum. The next rent review will be held on 1 October 1984. The total rent per annum paid by APSO is £15,500 and the total square footage rented is 3,600 square feet.

Gorta — the Freedom from Hunger Council of Ireland — rents office accommodation at £6 per square foot. The next rent review will be held in June 1982. The total rent per annum paid is £7,800 and the total square footage rented is 1,300 square feet.

280.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of each semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of his Department:— (1) if they rent office accommodation and, if so, the rent per square foot per annum, (2) the length of time to the next date of rent review, and (3) the total rent per annum paid by each body and the total square footage rented.

The arrangements for office accommodation of any semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of my Department is a matter of day-to-day administration for these bodies and I have no function in the matter.

281.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state in respect of each semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of his Department:— (1) if they rent office accommodation and, if so, the rent per square foot per annum, (2) the length of time to the next date of rent review, and (3) the total rent per annum paid by each body and the total square footage rented.

There is no semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of my Department.

282.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will state in respect of each semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of his Department:— (1) if they rent office accommodation and, if so, the rent per square foot per annum, (2) the length of time to the next date of rent review, and (3) the total rent per annum paid by each body and the total square footage rented.

As the only agencies under the aegis of my Department are the Civil Service Commission and the Institute of Public Administration, the question is not relevant to my Department.

283.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of each semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of his Department:— (1) if they rent office accommodation and, if so, the rent per square foot per annum, (2) the length of time to the next date of rent review, and (3) the total rent per annum paid by each body and the total square footage rented.

292.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of each semi-State Body or State agency under the aegis of his Department:— (1) if he is aware of and kept informed of the investment policy of the pension fund of each body, (2) the total capitalised value of the pension fund of each body, (3) the percentage of the capitalised value which is invested in office block accommodation, and (4) the number of office blocks that are owned in part or in whole by semi-State pension funds.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 283 and 292 together.

There are no semi-State bodies or State agencies as envisaged in the questions under the aegis of my Department.

284.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state in respect of each semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of his Department:— (1) if they rent office accommodation and, if so, the rent per square foot per annum, (2) the length of time to the next date of rent review, and (3) the total rent per annum paid by each body and the total square footage rented.

The National Committee on Pilot Schemes to Combat Poverty is the only State body for which I am responsible.
