The number of candidates who sat for the day vocational (group) certificate, intermediate certificate and leaving certificate examinations in 1980 were 17,483, 51,222 and 36,539 respectively. Since 1977 all candidates at these examinations are given their results according to grades in the individual subjects of the examination and are not classified by reference to pass or fail in the examination as a whole.
